MR. STAPLETON:

I

GOY. McNICHOlS:

MR. STAPLETON:

MR. SPARKS:

I

.Ll:.L;)

"It is a great pleasure for us to wel-
come back after an arduous month of traveling,
the Chairman of our Board and I would like him
to address us at this time. Governor McNichols."

"Thank you Ben. I don't have anything in
particular to say to the Board. You have a very
interesting agenda here. I saw it some time ago
and I was interested in seeing what progress has
been made on this Ftyingpan and on the surveys
and all and I just 'wanted to be here this morning.
Otherwise I don't have anything to say. Why don't
we just get along with the meeting."

"Before the meeting starts I want to state
that I heard in Rome of my election as Yice-
Chairman and I appreciate the honor and will be
very willing and happy to serve at the pleasure
of the Board in any capacity that I can. I will
try and work with the attorney and the Director
to carry out your wishes.

With that stated we will first have a report
on the Fryingpan-Arkansas Project."

"Gentlemen I think you have been kept up to
date pretty well on the progress of that project.
We have been trying very hard to locate addi-
tional storage sites in Western Colorado to re-
place the Aspen Reservoir.

We have made several trips along the
Roaring Fork River where the Aspen Reservoir
is presently contemplated. We had field parties
over there for several weeks off and on, both
from this Board and from the Bureau of Reclama-
tion, making surveys. There appears to be no
feasible site on the Roaring Fork River other
than the Aspen Reservoir site. There are other
small sites but the cost of those small sites is
completely out of proportion to the amount of
water that could be stored there. So it appears
that there is no suitable site other than the
Aspen site and if the people of Pitkin County
do not want the Aspen site, there appears to be
no point in pursuing that site any further. I
think it is a grave mistake on the part of the
people of Pitkin County but nevertheless they
are the ones who are in a position to decide.
