CHRISTY:

I

L~~v

"Let's examine our own personal
schedules and see what we can work out."

"Mr. Chairman, I think most of you are
aware of th~ fact that Colorado is trying to
get the NRA to meet in Denver in '59. We
talked with the convention bureau here in
September and anticipate that, if Colorado
wants it, w~ will wind up with a great deal
of competition."

"How many people attend?'

"I would imagine in Denver we would have
some where around 800 or maybe even more.
You see, Denver hasn't had it now for a good
many years. I might tell you that even
Colorado Springs asked for the meeting but
right or wrong, as a director! I ruled that
Denver had already put in the1r request and we
weren't going to have competition in Colorado.

I thought I had better pass that on and
that is another reason why it seems to me that
a strong delegation from Colorado is needed
and I want to add too, with Congress meeting,
I remember a long fight ort basin sites and I
think the report of 17 western states had a lot
to do with helping the Colorado River Storage
bill on account of that.

Now those are the kind of things that if
we are there in the formulating stage in an
organization of that kind will make it bene-
ficial. Now we've got the Wilderness Bill
coming up, we've got the substitution of the
Barrett Bill to write now. Who got the Barrett
Bill started? It was the NRA who got the
