<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />COLORADO WATER CONSERVATION BOARD <br />Department of Natural Resources <br />Bill Owens, Governor <br />Greg Walcher, DNR Executive Director July l4, 2000 <br /> <br />WATER EDUCATION INITIATIVE <br /> <br />The Colorado Water Conservation Board <br />(CWCB) is required by law to: <br /> <br />· Promote the conservation of the waters of the <br />state to secure the greatest utilization of such <br />waters; <br /> <br />· Foster and encourage others to conserve, <br />develop, and utilize Colorado's waters; and, <br /> <br />· Foster the conservation of the water by <br />promoting and implementing measures to <br />enhance water use efficiency, assure the <br />availability of adequate supplies for future uses <br />and assure that necessary water services are <br />provided at a reasonable cost. <br /> <br />To help implement its statutory charge the <br />CWCB and the General Assembly have supported <br />a water education initiative. The initiative will: <br /> <br />l. Assemble water education materials on a CD- <br />ROM for distribution; <br /> <br />2. Utilize an existing water education distribution <br />network known as the "Learning to be <br />WaterWise" program; <br /> <br />3. Define the future role and responsibility of the <br />CWCB with respect to water education. <br /> <br /> <br />Initiative Highlights <br /> <br />~ $115,000 authorized; <br /> <br />~ Water education <br />materials converted to CD-. <br />ROM; <br /> <br />~ CD's distributed through <br />existing network; <br /> <br />~ Funds provided on a <br />cost-shared basis based <br />upon performance; <br /> <br />~ Evaluation by an <br />independent authority, and; <br /> <br />~ Meets Colorado <br />educational content <br />standards. <br />
