<br />,.....:""::-- <br />I.... ~ <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />@) <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />INTRODUCTIONI$ <br /> <br /> <br />Waters Ways: <br />The Water Cycle <br /> <br />Water's Ways: The Water Cycle is a thematic unit that actively involves third grade <br />students in exploration of the importance of water to life on Earth. This interdisciplinary <br />program is aligned to Colorado Model Science, Language Arts. Civics. Geography and <br />Mathematics K-4 Standards. Assessment is integral to the program and is <br />embedded in all of the lessons, providing a clear picture of student understanding at <br />all stages oflearning. <br />A rich variety of water-related resources - trade books, videos. models. maps, <br />science materials for experiments, computer Ilnternet connections and music and <br />art resources - provides students with many avenues for learning major concepts <br />and skills_ <br />Technical reading in the content areas of science, history and geography <br />addresses key reading standards. Students also engage in technical writing through <br />jouraal entries, embedded writing assignments and creative writing, <br />Students are challenged to design science experiments that are aligned to <br />Colorado Model Content Standard One, During investigations, students learn how to <br />communicate about their results through charts, graphs and written conclusions. <br />The lessons are carefully linked to the local environment, with materials provided <br />to help children understand the climate where they live. Local information resources <br />are suggested. <br />The Water's Ways teacher guides are educator-friendly. Content standards are <br />addressed at the beginning of each activity. Activities build concepts and skills. and are <br />designed to follow sequentially from one to the next_ Hence, it is very important that <br />activities be taught in order, so students fully learn the necessary skills and conceptS. <br />You are invited to take your students on an exciting journey using the wide <br />array of activities and resources in the Water's Ways kit. <br />This program creates an engaging way for students to learn crucial skills in <br />many areas of study. <br /> <br />81 <br /> <br />,( <br />
