1

I. MR. S'''LEOOS,

f~L ,

them. You have to have an environment to have
the fish grow. You get in there with bulldozers
and what have you. You are just not going to
have the growth and capability. That is the
whole thing. And you can have good flood
control with a dam. You may not have as good
flood control as you would with a channel, but
the way that it looks now and 1 know nothing
about real estate, but if you have a dam that
in part controls this river. And if you put up
dikes and what have you, along there what you do
is just bought a tremendous insurance policy to
guarantee that there is not going to be any flow
of water. You can guarantee the land prices
there and pretty soon you are going to guarantee
apartments and what have you.

Now 1 came here for some of the open spaces
and if you rig that river the way that 1 under-
stand that it might be rigged, you have a super
piece of expensive real estate property. Every-
thing is give and take, but the real estate
benefits are fantastic.

And that is what impressed me as I listened
to this today. 1 am not coming specifically to
ask questions about it. I feel rather emotional -
when you get to tearing up rivers if you have
accomplished protection, the flood control that
is required, so you have no 1970, 1967 flood,
then you have something. I just think, please
consider this thing. We all have desires and
mine is fishing. It is a matter of commun~cation
today. That is why everybody is here, that is
why the board is here - to get everybody's ideas.
I think if you feel strongly, you ought to stand
up and say something.

That is all I have to say, sir. You might
try fishing, it is not a bad sport."

"1 can't afford a hobby that gets you up so
tightly.

Mr. Olsen describes himself as a landowner.
