Newton, Columbine Country Club <br />representative for the Platte River Channelization <br />committee, the one Mr. Sparks spoke about. It <br />has been meeting now over a period of years. And <br />I want to say that both Littleton and South <br />Suburban, Englewood and all the communities and <br />landowners that are affected by the Platte River <br />channel have been a member of that committee and <br />have attended all the meetings. <br /> <br />As far as Columbine is concerned, I would <br />like to give you a brief resume of what our <br />interest is. In 1957, the Corps of Engineers <br />held meetings as they are required to do, to <br />further their plans for the building of Chatfield <br />Dam, recognizing that a major flood could take <br />place in this valley. At that meeting there <br />were several that attended - there was only one <br />group that was for the building of the Chatfield <br />Dam. That was the Columbine Homeowners Associa- <br />tion. I was president at that time, and a <br />geologist. I'have bought a lot out here and I <br />bought it up on the terrace for that very reason, <br />because I could recognize that this flood which <br />they said hadn't taken place for thirty years <br />could take place anytime. So, Columbine was for <br />the building of the Chatfield Dam, but the Denver <br />Water Board and numerous others were against it. <br />We, being a small minority, lost and there was no <br /> <br />I <br />
