The orange portions are those lands which
the landowners have stated that they would grant
without any cost to the state, which is a very
substantial portion of the upper part of the
channel.

The part in yellow is the land we are still
negotiating with the landowners. We think that
all of the land should be given for this purpose.
The project greatly increases the value of the
adjoining lands. Once the channel is constructed
and the dam is closed, then the adjoining lands
will be relatively flood free.

It must be remembered that even with a dam
the possibility of floods occutring still exists.
Even though the dam will reduce the odds tremen-
dously and practically eliminate any possibility
of the recurrence of the '65 flood, there still
could be a heavy storm below the dam_ Because
of the rapid runoff now from the Littleton-
Englewood-Metropolitan complex, the river can
peak quite rapidly below the dam.

This red line indicates the Corps' study of
a potential intermediate regional flood which
could occur even with the dam on the river. So
to eliminate that flood plain and stabilize the
river this channelization project was planned.
This red line does not depict the '65 flood.
The '65 flood actually inundated a much greater
area than this map shows. This shows the flood
outline after the dam is closed.

That's an explanation of it from our view-
point. I would like, ~tr. Chairman, to call on
~tr. Dover from the Corps of Engineers to give
the details of the project. Then if there are
