(Managed groundwater projects are
designed to retlme flows at the lower end of the South Platte from periods of excess to periods
of shortage.) This pilot project is designed to create a perpetual State interest in water projects
that will benefit the State in meeting its needs for species of concern, In meeting Its
commitments for threatened and endangered species in the Platte River Basin, and for other
water management purposes. The project will also facilitate administration of water rights by the
State. Private partners will benefit from their share of recharge credits for augmentation.
Standard contracts and agreements with private landowners will be developed as part of this
project, as a model for future similar projects. These issues affect the entire South Plate
drainage, and are of statewide impact and importance. The demonstration project will be
managed by SPLRG and has a number of supporters that will contribute cash and in-kind
services.

Location Map
3
