Colorado Watershed Protection Fund (CWPF) Update. The CWPF designees approved
recommendations to provide funding for five project grants and three planning grants. The following
table provides a list ofthe applicants, their respective ranks, requested and approved funding amounts,
and the type of applications.

Approximately $84,000 is available this fiscal year. Accordingly, the CWCB and WQCD staff and the
CW A representatives assessed the respective needs of the top ranked projects. This assessment
identified that partial funding would have to be provided for each project. In assessing the needs of
individual applicants, the reviewers determined that two applicants who had received funding last year
should be awarded grants to continue their work, but that those grants should be smaller than the grants
to new recipients. Those two applicants are the Coalition for the Upper South Platte and the North
Fork River Improvement Association.

In the case of project grants other than the two recipients of previous CWPF grants, the reviewers
considered the requested amount of funding, the history of each applicant with regard to obtaining
alternative funding, and the statewide significance of the proposed project in determining the
recommended funding level. In the case of planning grants, the reviewers decided that each applicant
for whom funding was proposed should receive the same amount of funding, $10,000, regardless of
their funding request. All entities agreed on this partial funding alternative, including the smaller level
offunding proposed for the two recipients ofFY 2003 grants.

The CWCB staffhas informed all applicants of these decisions. The grant recipients can begin
withdrawing fund by submitting invoices for completed tasks up to the approved amount after
September 30, 2004.
