only a portion of its fish water is available but the CRWCD may contract for
some Ruedi reservoir water to provide the remainder.
Coordinated Reservoir Operations (a coordinated effort to preemptively bypass
inflows from reservoirs projected to fill in order to increase spring peak flows in
the 15-Mile Reach) were cancelled in mid-May due to bleak storage forecasts in
the upper basin. However, flows in the 15-Mile Reach peaked above 18,000 cfs,
due to high flows from lower basin tributaries. This peak was well above the
target range for CROS operations.

Colorado River Water Use: As of June 1, storage in the four major Upper Basin
reservoirs increased by 2,371,200 acre-feet and storage in the Lower Basin reservoirs
decreased by 262,100 acre-feet during May. Total system active storage as of June 9 was
34.471 million acre-feet (MAP), or 58 percent of capacity, which is 2.870 MAP more than
one year ago.

The preliminary end-of-year measure for 2004 California agricultural consumptive use of
Colorado River water under the first three priorities and the sixth priority of the 1931
California Seven Party Agreement was reported as 3.524 MAF. Tracking of use in 2005
is shown below through June 1, with forecasted uses at the end of 2005 of approximately
3.589 MAF. The target under the Interim Surplus Guidelines (ISG) for the end of 2003
was 3.740 MAF, and the target for 2006 is 3.640 MAF, thus California is in substantial
compliance with the ISG.

June 1 Forecast of 2005 Year.End Colorado River
Water Use by the California Agricultural Agencies

5
4
Q)
2
~ 3
"
'"
0
Ul 2
c
0
::>

3.850 MAF
mmmm 2003 Target = 3.74 MAF
. -. . -.2006 Target = 3.64 MAF
n, _n .,2009 Target = 3.53 MAF
.. .......2012 Target = 3.47 MAF
m'....~m' Year-End Forecast
I~Use This Year

o

J FMAMJ J ASOND J

First of Month

30
