TASK 2. Geophysical logs from water, oil, orgas wells will be used to map the \.
subsurface structure of the deeper bedrock aquifers in the area. Structure maps will aid in mapping the .A
outcrop and subcrop of the bedrock aquifers where surface recharge and inter-aquifer flow of ground .,
water can occur between the bedrock and surfical aquifers.

TASK 3. Water-quality analyses from shallow wells will be used to define the chemical
characteristics of the shallow ground-water in the area.

PREVIOUS PROGRESS: TASK 1. A bibliography of 144 reports pertaining to the geology and water
resources of the shallow and bedrock aquifers in the demonstration area has been compiled. Lithologic-
logs and water-level data have been compiled for about 17,000 wells and test holes in the area. About
6,000 of these wells were used to define the thickness of the unconsolidated sediments, altitude of the
bedrock surface, altitude of the water table, depth to water, and saturated thickness of the shallow
aquifers in the 680 square mile Denver metropolitan area. This work covers the southem 1/3 of the
demonstration area, and has been published as Hydrologic Investigations Atlas HA-736.

Data compilation activities have been completed in the northem 2/3 of the demonstration area.
Compilation and quality checking of lithologic and water-level data has been completed. Contour maps
of the thickness of the unconsolidated sediments have been prepared. Contouring of the water-table
altitude has begun

TASK 2. Geophysical logs from about 1700 wells have. been interpreted and
used to map the subsurface structure of the base or top of the Laramie-Fox Hills or Arapahoe aquifers.
The mapped area is along the westem margin of the Denver Basin from Nunn to Larkspur, Co.
Preliminary mapping of the outcrop of the bedrock aquifers and the subcrop of the aqUifers under
principal alluvial aquifers has been completed. The digital data base of bedrock-aquifer altitudes has .A
been completed. A draft final report for TASK 2 has been prepared, reviewed, and sent to Central .,
Region for Director's approval. GIS processing of the final illustrations is near completion.

TASK 3. Water-quality for about 5,000 shallow wells have been compiled.
Additional data is awaiting compilation.

PROGRESS THIS QUARTER-Project remains on schedule

TASK 3. No significant progress has been made on the water-quality data base this

quarter.

PROGRESS THIS QUARTER - Project remains on schedule

TASK 1. Mapping in the northem 2/3 of the demonstration area has been undertaken at
the 1 :24,000 scale of topographic quadrangles. Forty five quadrangles are within the area. A series of
270 1 :24,000 scale maps have been prepared to show geohydrologic conditions on the 45 quadrangles.
The 270 maps have been scanned to produce ArclNFO coverages consisting of 8 themes:
1. Extent of the study area
2. Areas of bedrock outcrop
3. Location of data points indicating thickness of unconsolidated sediments
4. Attributted contours on the thickness of the unconsolidated sediments
5. Location of data points indicating water-table altitude
6. Attributted contours on the water-table altitude.
7. Unattributted contours on the water-table altitude.
8. Arrows indicating the direction of ground-water movement.

e
