is a common agreement among the seven basin
states concerning the approach that should be
made. We were fearful, initially, that the
seven states would become divided. I can say
at this point that California, Arizona and
Nevada have been extremely helpful in this I
matter. Of course, Arizona has little choice
since the Welton-Mohawk project is one of the
main problems on the Colorado River, and that
project is in Arizona. Are there any questions
on the salinity?"

MR. NELSON:

"Has the date for the second meeting been
set? II

MR. TUCKER:

UNo. II

MR. SPARKS:

"I think not. As you know, the EPA did not
agree, or was not a party to the resolution
adopted by the seven states. However, the EPA
did agree to give it every consideration and
study the problem further and make some decision
down the line on when it would establish the
numerical standai:-ds for the river."

REP. SPARKS:

"There was a whole list of projects enum-
erated that would be subject to rather intensive
study. The priority would be Grand Valley and
the Price, Vtah area. We have other areas in
Colorado which will be included in this - the
Uncompahgre area for one; the Salt Dome, a
natural source on the Dolores River; and the
salt springs at Dotsero and Glenwood Springs
would come into the picture also. It's a rather
broad attack. The problem now is to coordinate
it with the state agencies and with the various
federal agencies. Apparently, the two principal
federal agencies wIll. be the EPA (the Environ-
mental Protection Agency) and the Bureau of
Reclamation.

I

The last item I have Mr. Chairman, concerns

-74-
