we put the same deck of cards back in again.
This time the computer called me 'a micro-
hydrobiogeochemist.' They just turned a
couple of syllables around and they said that
here I study flora in small bodies of water I
and the relationship to the underlying rock
strata by chemical methods. Well, this wasn't
much variation SO this time we turned the deck
of cards upside down and we put it into the
machine. This time they called me 'a micro-
biohydrogeochemist, , and they came out with a
job description that said I study small flora
and the relationships to underlying rock strata
using chemical methods and scuba equipment.
I am not a scuba diver. I never had a tank on
my back.

I was getting a little irritated and I
went down and talked to the man in the computer
center and I said, 'Look, you have fivc.9yal-
lables here, there are theoretically 120 per-
mutations of five syallables. Let's run it
again and this time when you put the deck in
the machine, kick it.' And he did, and he came
back with another permutation, 'a hydrobio-
microgeochemist.' The job description for that
was - and here it started to get personal - it
called me a very small geochemist who studies
the effects of plant life on hydrology. Things
were getting more irritated, and this time I
put the deck in upside down, kicked the machine,
threw a bucket of water on it, and it called
me 'a biohydromicrogeochemist and the job des-
cription said that I was a very small geo-
chemist who studies wet plants. I could believe
that, but I was mighty irritated and I said,
'All right, let's try again, once more before
we throw out the machine.' It came out with I
another permutation that called me 'a biomicro-
hydrogeochemist, , and my job description said
that I was a very small wet geochemist who liked
lettuce. Printed on the bottom of the printout
sheet was 'tilt.'

We wonder why we are interested in the

-38-
