I

I

Mr. Ted Moulder used a screen projector and slides for
his presentation.

MR. MOULDER:

"I want to mention three recent develop-
ments in several areas. One area is the San
Luis Valley, second one is the High Plains.
third one is the Arkansas River Valley. In
addition to those three, then. there are a
couple of statewide projects that bear some
mention.

In the San Luis Valley most recent
development is that the model that \\Fe have
been working on for the past two or three
years now has proceeded to a three-layer
model. The three layers are the unconfined
layer that is shown here in blue: another
layer that extends down to 3,000 feet below
that; and another layer that goes down an-
other 3,000 feet. In essence, we have the
upper 6.250 feet model which we think is the
absolute extent of development within the
foreseeable future. Now the beauty of this
thing is that, right now, we are putting in
the last modification to it. so that we will
be ready then to run such kinds of problems
as how many more wells can be added to the
system without causing problems. Or if no'
new wells are added to the system, what will
be the long-term effects?

In the Arkansas River Valley, as you are
acquainted. we have a number of management
problems. The principal one is getting more
water into the valley and distributing it
according to the demand. You can see from
this draft there is a little bit of excess
water in the winter months and a shortage of
water in the sununer months. In order to
balance this out and distribute it, the
things that have been done is to put in wells,
propose projects for delivering water through
the Fryingpan-Arkansas River project, and for
putting in Pueblo reservoir. increasing the
capacity of some of the other existing

-35-
