MR. STAPLETON:

MR. VELEHRADSKY:

which relates to the improvement of the Cherry
Creek channel, I assume could proceed. That
will require coordination with the City of
Denver. That part of it, as far as I know, is

I"""
non-controversial. It would be difficult at
this stage in history to preserve Cherry Creek
through Denver in its natural state. This is
something that can proceed if it is coordinated
with the City and County of Denver. Castlewood
is a matter which should be deferred pending
more thorough investigation of other alter-
natives. "

"All right. Will you continue then with
Sand Creek and Toll Gate Creek? Please."

"Essentially, if the problem in Cherry
Creek is taken care of, the problem of the
spillway, we thence corne up with a plan that
consists of the construction of a darn on Toll
Gate Creek, which is at the confluence of East
and West Toll Gate Creeks, immediately west of
Buckley Field: a darn on Sand Creek, about 3
miles southeast of Buckley Field: the acquis-
ition of a floodway from Sand Creek darn to
Highway 36: and an improvement of the Sand and
Toll Gate Creek channel from Toll Gate Creek
darn and High 36 to the South Platte River.

This plan also includes permission for
development of dry-land recreation facilities.
In other words, we would not have any recreation
pools at these two sites. Recreation facilities
at the Toll Gate Creek site would be designed
as a city-park-type development. In other
words, it would have swimming pools, tennis
courts, this type of thing. The Sand Creek
recreation facilities would be developed more
or less as an open-space area. And here, we
might have an archery range and this type of
thing that is better suited for an open area.

I

The channel improvements downstream from
the darns would be designed. We have two alter-
natives in the report listed. One alternative

-28-
