.

.

.

ATTACHMENT I

FPR 98-468
Floodplain Information Report, Town of Akron, Washington County,
Colorado, September 1998, including the April 1, 1988 Flood Hazard
Boundary Map

KEY ISSUES:
· The FIR contains approximate information for two unnamed drainageways, each with two
branches, within the Akron corporate limits; one drainageway is in the northeastern portion of
Akron and one is in the southwestern portion of Akron.

· Most of the floodplain for the northeastern drainageway, including both branches, is in town
park, school district open space, or town right-of-way. The floodplain of the southwestern
drainageway, including both branches, is in town-owned open space.

· There is no documented history of significant flooding problems in any of the identified
approximate floodplains; only occasional localized storm drainage problems and flooding of
some parkland.

· The town does not currently anticipate any development activity in any of its identified
approximate floodplains.

COMMUNITY RESPONSE:
The Town of Akron sent a letter requesting CWCB designation of the 1988 FHBM. CWCB
staff met with the Town Clerk and conducted a field review of the map, The Town is
supportive of the Board's proposed designation and approval of the 1998 FIR, including the
1988 FHBM.

SUMMARY:
The staff recommends Board approval of the floodplain resolution for the Town of Akron. The
floodplain information contained in the FIR meets the Board's "Floodplain Designation and
Approval Rules". The designation will assure that the most recent floodplain information for the
Town of Akron complies with state statutory requirements.
