to the groundwater and compare how it varies over time. It can also be accumulated over
. time to see if it correlates to groundwater level changes over time.

Survey Extent of Problem area

The purpose of a survey is to gather information on when and where lands or basements are
flooded. This data would be used to establish where the problem areas are in proximity to the
Platte River, estimated net recharge in the area, and other recharge sources like canals, and
reservOIrs.

Data Needs include
I. Historic Platte River stages at North Platte, Brady, Cozad, Overton, Odessa, Grand Island,
and Duncan.
2. Estimate of future river stage base CA program.
3. Historic precipitation and consumptive use at weather station from North Platte to
Columbus, Ne.
4. Soil and land use information in the North Platte to Columbus area.
5. Historic groundwater levels measured at wells between North Platte and Columbus
including their proximity to the river.

.

In summary the group suggested the River stage change analysis be done as one of the fIrst
items to see what potential changes may occur. Doing a survey of when and where the
problem exist would be helpful to establish the aerial extent and timing of the problem. At
the same time developing a series of depth to groundwater map over time could indicate when
and where the problems developed. Then based on what is learned from the River stage
change analysis work on a bank storage type analysis to related river stage to groundwater
level changes. In addition if we need to understand the changes in groundwater storage over
time net recharge due to precipitation could be analyzed along with recharge from other
sources like canals and reservoirs.

.
