I

I

tlu<:::>

Reclamation portraying our field activities.
This will tell you more about what we are doing
and how we are doing it. than I could in four
hours. So. may we have the movie. please.
Following this I will be glad to answer ques-
tions."

At this point. Mr. Douglas used a screen and projector to
present the film "Rivers in the Sky" with sound and in color.

MR. SPARKS:

"Are there any questions of Mr. Douglas
in connection with this program? I thought it
was very impressive and interesting."

MR. GOODWIN:

"Mr. Chairman."

MR. SPARKS:

IICraig. II

MR. GOODWIN:

"Mr. Chairman. this is not really a ques-
tion. it's just an observation. I think it
is on page five. I noticed here where it starts
in 'the same water which is subsequently used
for irrigation would produce a gross crop income
of over $24 million'. Then he goes on to say
'Consideration of industrial or domestic use
would increase the value even more'. I am just
wondering. there is one thing we certainly
shouldn't do and that is. lose sight of the
agricultural needs for water because. after
all. that's the basis of our civilization."

MR. SPARKS:

"I think what they are pointing out here.
Craig. is that as far as the money value is
concerned under today's market. industrial and
municipal water is marketed at a higher price.
that is. just the water itself."

MR. GOODWIN:

"Larry. I'm sure that's right. I under-
stand that but. at the same token. if you
didn't have agriculture you sure as hell
wouldn't have any use for the rest of it."

MR. SPARKS:

"That's true. Craig. A large part of this
water. we assume. would be available for agri-
cultural purposes."
