I appreciate your support of the technical discussion regarding the probable
maximum precipitation (pMP) for the Cherry Creek Dam Safety Study. I am gratified to hear
the discussion was informative.

.

Your comment about the Current availability of adequate information is understandable
given the Corps of Engineers has not presented an official position on the Cherry Creek Dam
Safety issue. This information will be presented in the draft Dam Safety Report for the Cherry
Creek Dam. The Corps has been developing the data that is needed to make a determination and
receiving scoping comments from the public. Rather than trying to answer all of these concerns
and comments as they are presented, the Corps records these issues and addresses them in the
draft dam safety report. This report provides all the data and necessary supporting material in a
complete and consolidated manner which allows the reader to have the type of information and
explanation you are requesting. The draft report is then reviewed by the public and additional
comments are considered.

The Omaha District is writing the draft dam safety report at this time. Prior to the July
1999 meeting, the Corps anticipated having the draft report to the public by February 2000;
however, the additional review of some issues by the National Weather Service may possibly
delay the release date.

I am requesting you withhold your opinion on the study and delay any formal comments
to the public, congressionals, and the Colorado Water Conservation Board members until you
have completely reviewed the draft dam safety report for Cherry Creek Dam.

.
