" <br /> <br />At your January 1997 meeting, I presented a proposal that had the foiIowing'objectives: <br />. To address the current statewide level of unmet floodplain management needs; <br />. To develop a comprehensive approach to enhance and better manage flood-related <br />activities within the state's stream corridors; <br />. To evaluate a wide range of alternatives for the lessening of flood risks and their <br />economic impacts, with a focus on stream channel rehabilitation and maintenance; <br />. To provide a multi-objective management program which will address: <br />· Floodplain management issues <br />. Flood hazard mitigation measures <br />. Streambnk and channel erosion problems <br />. Channel conveyance and floodplain capacity <br />. Loss of fish and wildlife habitat areas <br />. Preservation and restoration of natural areas <br />. Participation in open space and land acquisition programs; <br />. To evaluate the need for a state-wide stormwater detention policy; and <br />. To authorize and implement funding opportunities/strategies for studies and projects. <br />
