acre-feet for industrial,
addi tiona1 Indus trial. I
I'm speaking from memory.

24,000 for Kemmerer and approximately 5,000
don't have those exact figures before me,
Do you have those?

Mr. Starks: That's about correct. The Governor's letter, I'm sure,
was d rected to the allocation to Kemmerer Coal, 24,000 acre-feet. I I
am sure I know that is his concern. I think there is the question in
the Governor's mind whether the people in the area would support that
type o( development. It seems to me your Board is going to have to
make that decision. That is one that we can't make for you. You know
your own area better than we do.

Mr. Brooks:
support it.

It is the feeling of the Board that the area residents do
Of course, we will know better after the election.

Mr. Sherman: Do you know what the Kemmerer plans are in terms of using
24,000 acre-feet? I presume we are talking about thermal plants. Do
you have any idea of the size of the plants, or the location of the
plants?

Mr. Brooks: No. As we discussed earlier this morning, Kemmerer is not
in the business of producing power. They are putting together, you
might say, a package, an energy package of the coal and water which
would be needed in the production. I do have some figures, though,
that Kemmerer has advised were a possibility, that with the coal and
water they feel there would be a generating plant of 1.2 million .
kilowatts.

Mr. Sherman: And on the change from irrigation purposes to industrial
purposes, do you have any idea of the number of acre-feet, and the
amount of the land that would in turn not receive water? In other
words, I presume that in this change from irrigation to industrial less
land would be irrigated as a result of that. Do you have any idea of
the number of acres that would take out of the irrigation as a result
of changing it?

Mr. Brooks: .I don't at the present time.

Mr. Sherman: Is there a need for the additional 8,900 acre-feet for
additional irrigation in the area?

Mr. Brooks: It would be very minor

Mr. Sherman: Very minor.

Mr. Brooks: -- for the land that is presently under irrigation.

Mr. Sherman: The reason I ask, I don't know when this report was
prepared, but there was an environmental assessment report prepared
that may have been prepared by the Bureau of Mines.

Mr. Brooks: That's right.

I

-22-
