<br />. ..' .~ <br />". ::~ ; <br /> <br />',...,,'. <br /> <br />meeting; a tour of the Government Highline Canal and the Grand Valley Water Management <br />facilities and associated meeting with Mesa County and Grand Jllnction city officials; Colorado <br />Counties Land Use Committee; and, a South Platte Lower River Group meeting. <br />, <br />CWCB Drought Needs Survey: There is a drought needs survey project in the construction <br />fund bill this year that designed to determine local basin needs for technical and financiai <br />assistance relating to drought planning and drought prciparedness. The first public outreach and <br />needs assessment will happen in Lamar when Larry L~g makes a formal presentation on the <br />survey at the Arkansas River Basin Watershed Forum meeting. <br /> <br />Strategic PlanningILRP Meeting on April 20: 'the Senior Staff and I will begin meeting plan <br />for our upcoming Long Range Plan revision process ill Colorado Springs on April 20. We will <br />also discuss staffing needs and future budget proposal~. <br /> <br />Cat Shrier is progressing toward completion of draft bilsin meeting summaries. I hope to have <br />them in hand to begin the process of review and revisipn with you very soon. We also intend to <br />finalize the basin fact sheets before the May meeting. : <br /> <br />With respect to scheduling our planning process t am proposing that we: <br /> <br />I. Review the existing plan and draft basin meeting summaries with you in May. A copy of the <br />exiting plan is your Board Member Handboolt and it will also be posted on the Internet. <br />2. Between the May and July Board meetings, tl"e staff and I will prepare a proposed plan for <br />2002-2007. We will present the plan for your review at the July meeting. <br />3. Between July and September we will attempt to h?ld one meeting about the proposed new <br />plan in each water basin. :. <br />4. We will report our findings and recommendations: in September at the Board meeting and <br />seek your approval to produce a fmai plan fo~ implementation at the November Board <br />me~ing. . <br />Streamgaging Symposium: We are working with the Division of Water Resources (DWR), the <br />USGS, and the Colorado Water Resources Research Institute to sponsor a Streamgaging <br />Symposium on May 3 in Breckenridge. The symposi1,lIll will focus on major programs; the uses <br />of streamflow data; historic and current coverage of streamflow gages; and opportunities that <br />may be availabie to diversify and increase overall investments made to support the collection, <br />dissemination, and archiving of streamflow informa~~n. <br /> <br />CWCB staff is also working closely with the DWR ahd USGS to help fund satellite telemetry <br />upgrades to existing gaging stations. These gages benefit the CWCB by providing flood <br />warnings and instream flow data for Decision SUpport Systems.
