The program <br />results in the substantial conservation of energy and :water. Over 700,000 acres of irrigated land <br />overlays the OgaUala aquifer in Colorado including Baca, Prowers, Kiowa, Cheyenne, Kit <br />Carson, Yuma, Phillips and Sedgwick Counties in eastern Colorado. This irrigation water <br />management program provides needed water planning technoiogy to the area's farmers. The Soil <br />Conservation Board is expected to make a General Fund request to support this program in the <br />future. <br /> <br />Division of Water Resources - Reoublican River Compact Investigation <br />Authorization: FY 2001 Grant Amount: $75,000 <br />Water Source: Republican River project Type: Groundwater Study <br />Location: Eastern Colorado i>roject Manager: Dan McAuliffe <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />This request is designed to help accurately define and quantify the amount of Ogallala aquifr~r <br />groundwater that is consumed within the Republican River Basin. This will be accomplished <br />through a comprehensive weU survey. We anticipate the review and analysis of about 2,100 <br />wells. This will be done by reviewing information in the groundwater database known as WeU <br />Look, then by performing on-site inspections to verify information, and finally by coUating and <br />mapping the fieid information. . <br /> <br />Southwestern Water Conservation Dislrict <br />Authorization: FY 2001 <br />Water Source: N/A <br />Location: La Plata County <br /> <br />La Plata ~ountv Water Studies <br />Grant Amount: $20,000 <br />Project Type: Water Mngmnt Pinning <br />Project Manager: Mike Serlet . <br /> <br />The funding will be used to aliow the Animas La Plata Water Conservancy District to develop a <br />water management plan for the Western rural region of the La Plata County within the Dislrict <br />($15,000) and for the La Plata Water Conservancy j)islrict to develop a plan for Marvel Spring <br />($15,000).
