The program results in the substantial conservation of energy and :water. Over 700,000 acres of irrigated land overlays the OgaUala aquifer in Colorado including Baca, Prowers, Kiowa, Cheyenne, Kit Carson, Yuma, Phillips and Sedgwick Counties in eastern Colorado. This irrigation water management program provides needed water planning technoiogy to the area's farmers. The Soil Conservation Board is expected to make a General Fund request to support this program in the future. This request is designed to help accurately define and quantify the amount of Ogallala aquifr~r groundwater that is consumed within the Republican River Basin. This will be accomplished through a comprehensive weU survey. We anticipate the review and analysis of about 2,100 wells. This will be done by reviewing information in the groundwater database known as WeU Look, then by performing on-site inspections to verify information, and finally by coUating and mapping the fieid information. .
