<br /> <br /> <br />Construction Fund and Severance Tax Trust Fund Operational Account <br />Non-Reimbursable Investments Status Report <br />March 2001 <br /> <br />Construction Fund Non-Reimbursables - Projects of statewide Impact <br /> <br />U.S. Bureau of Reclamation - Animas La-Plata Project <br />Authorization: SB 89-142 Grant Amount: $5,600,000 <br />Water Source: Animas River Project Type: Reservoir Construction <br />Location: Immediately south of Durango Project Manager: Bill Green <br /> <br />AJiJ currently proposed, the project consists ofl20,000 acre-feet of storage in Ridges Basin <br />Reservoir (an off-channel facility) for water to be diverted from the Animas River. Project <br />beneficiaries include the Southern Ute, Ute Mountain Ute and Navajo Indian tribes as well as the <br />cities of Durango, Farmington, New Mexico and other communities in southern Colorado and <br />northern New Mexico. The project is a crucial element in the Colorado Ute Indian Water Rights <br />Settlement Act of 1988. A Final Supplemental Environmental hnpact Statement for the project <br />was reieased in July 2000. The project received congreSsional authorization in December 2000. <br /> <br />South Platte Lower River GrOUD (SPLRG) - AUl!lllenta~on Proiects <br />Authorization: sa 96-153 SB 97-008 Grant Amount: $135,000 <br />Water Source: South Platte River Project Type: Grodwtr Agnmtation <br />Location: Water District 64; South Platte River Project Manager: John Van Sciver <br /> <br />The purpose of this project is to demonstrate how managed ground water systems can be used to <br />provide augmentation water for junior wells, in compliance with the South Platte River Compact. <br />Eight demonstration projects were fully or partially funded, and the $135,000 grant amount has <br />been expended. SPLRG has requested additional funding for a pilot demonstration project, <br />starting in 2001. Project participants include the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District, <br />the Lower South Platte Water Conservancy District, Ground Water Appropriators of the South <br />Platte, the Platte River Project, and the Colorado Division of Wildlife. <br /> <br />South Platte Lower River Groun (SPLRG) - Tamarack Proiect <br />Authorization: SB 97-008 Orant Amount; $240,000 <br />Water Source: South Platte River Project Type: Augmentation Project <br />Location: Water bistrict 64; South Platte River Project Manager: John Van Sciver <br /> <br />This project consists of a serj.es of managed groundwater subprojects located within the <br />Tamarack Ranch State Wildlife area, the Pony Express State Wildlife area, and other areas <br />adjacent to the South Platte River in Logan and Sedgwick Counties. The purpose is to pump <br />water frorn the South Platte River during times of:surplus and deliver this water to infiltration <br />areas. Water then percolates back to the river and provides augmentation during times of <br />shortage.
