Monument. The existing reservoir capacity is approximately 300 acre-feet, which is planned to be
increased to 450 acre-feet be means of dredging. 'the existing lake is under limited storage by the
State Engineer's Office, due to deteriorated outlet works, tree growth on the dam face, and
inadequate slope protection and spillway capacity. The proposed project involves rehabilitating
the spillway, outlet works, and dam embankment, to include; replacement of the existing outlet
spillway chute below the spillway crest, removallllld rep1ilcement of the top 10 feet of the dam
embankment to clear all existing vegetation, rep!al:emc!nt of the outlet works with a new 24.inch
steel pipe, and the removal of approximately 150,00'0 cubic yards of sediment from the lake
hottom. Boyle Engineering, of Littleton, Colorll(\o, has completed the design and the project is
currently in the bidding process. Construction is tentatively scheduled for August of 200 I.

14. Pine River Irrillation District - Pumll and Pipe1i~ Proiect

Authorization:
Water Source: Pine River
Teons of Loan: $341,000 @3.50% for 20.years

County: La Plata
Project Yield: 1,600 acre-feet
Project Type: Distribution System

.'

'.

e

The Pine River lITigation District operates Vallecito Reservoir on the Pine River located
approximately IS miles north of the Town of Ba)'field. The eastern half of La Plata County is
considered a water critical area, meaninS that all of the water in the basin is used during certain
periods. Most of the people in this area are utilizi11-g groundwater resources that have limited
quantity and are of relative poor quality. The purpose of the project is to provide a rural water
system that is adequate in quantity and quality to the Water critical areas in La Plata County. The
overall project has many components, however, this 'particular loan is for diverting water from
Vallecito Reservoir to a pressurized treatment plant The proposed project involves tapping into the .
existing outlet tunnel, constructing a 500 foot pilleline to convey water to the treatment plant, a .
bridge over the spillway chute, and a pump when the reservoir water level is low or to pressurize
the treatment plant. Harris Water Engineering, of purango, Colorado, is preparing the design
plans and specifications, which should be completel:lY the end of May, 2001. The project is
tentatively scheduled to commence construction in July of2ool.

15. This project
involves a system of pipelines, pumps, and related facilities to deliver water to the District's
Dove Creek ClUtal system for the irrigation of 4,oQo acres of new lands that are presently dry
land farmed. Water will be delivered to irrigl\tors in pipes under pressure for sprinkler
irrigation only. Harris Water Engineers, of ~ango, Colorado, is the planning and design
consultant for the project.

.
