~uoo

I want to point out that the upper one is
factual; the lower one is factual as far as
it goes but this sheet would have to be extend-
ed and the line would get deeper and deeper to
cover the yellow to the right (again pointing
to the maps).

The Bureau of Reclamation has come up with
an estimate of relative costs for the Weld
County and Narrows sites respectively. To any
thinking engineers considering safety, utility
and economics, they are setting forth incredi-
ble figures. I take issue with the following
and in the little conclusion that was handed
out by the Bureau they itemize a little ways
the cost of the railroad relocations and various
things, so I take up first the railroad reloca-
tions. The cost of Box Elder crossing is
$1,225,000. Now, gentlemen, many of you took
the tour yesterday and some of our residents
went along to point out where Box Elder Creek
was and you did not know when you crossed it
and yet, we have to have a $1,225,000 bridge
across that creek. NoW I presume that was
done by this method, that the runoff roughly,
the cross section area of the drainage area,
it seemed that they needed a bridge of that
size because of the drainage area above that.

I

The cost of Box Elder crossing $1,225,000.
This creek may have 200 square miles drainage,
all the land entirely across the creek is
farmed and Highway No. 34 has a couple of small
box culverts. The present railroad has a
single span bridge no larger than a large irri-
gation ditch bridge at present. The actual
cost here is no more than a cattle underpass.

Next, the cost of the Lost Creek crossing, I
extra $655,000. I have been here all my life
and have never seen water pass to the river.
! do know of 700 c.f.s. reaching Empire Intake
following heavy rains in the Roggen area.
Highway 34, Empire and Bijou ditches have no
provisions to pass water and haven't needed
,them in over 60 years of history.
