4056

acre-foot. On this basis the Weldon Valley
water will contribute to the economy of the
county 120 x 165 x 2 x 50 or $99 million over
a fifty year period.

The assessed valuation of the land that
would be taken from private ownership by a
reservoir created by location of a dam at the
Narrows site is $709,000. From ~his land and
the personal property associated with it
approximately $100,000 of taxes are :,::'::"':'::l1ed
Morgan County annually. There are approxi-
mately 580 people living in this area. House
to house canvass in 1963 indicated u gross
agricultural income of $3,795,500, and an addi-
tional income from minerals 0= $500,000; a
total gross income of $4,295,500. Applying
the same gross income per acre to lands to be
inundated at the Weld County site a gross
income of $2,468,000 is estimated. Thus land
to be inundated by a dam at the Narrows site
would produce $91,375,000 mor~ gross income in
a 50-year period than land taken out of pro-
duction by a dam located at the W8ld County
site.

The area to be affected by a dam at the
Narrows site now has a 12.8 population density
per square mile. The area to be :lrlundated by
selection of the Weld County site has a 2.0
density population. These figures indicate
that the production of Weldon V~lley lands is
six times greater than that of lands at the
Weld County ';ite.

The amount of irrigation water believed to
be sufficient in the 1880's to provide maximum
agricultural production for the area known as
Weldon Valley, has proved to be inadequate
just as with other irrigation districts. Accord-
ingly, agricultural production could be mater-
ially increased if a few more thousand acre-
feet of water were available. The gain in
production to the larger systems of the River-
side and Bijou would be proportionately more
impressive. A dam at the Weld County site
would provide this needed water.

I

I
