J::1::1~

west slope collection system; Glenwood Springs;
the Continental Divide; Ruedi Dam on the Fry-
pan. Ruedi Dam, as I noted; we have completed
studies on the dam, we have issued the specifi-
cations, and apparently have a contractor on
the job at the present time. Ne expect that
that contractor will be on the job within a few
days, possibly a week or two, initiating work
because the construction season is short at
this elevation and he will want to make as much
progress as he can. The reservoir, 100,000
acre-feet in capacity, will have about a 12-mile
shoreline when it is full and there will be
provided a minimum pool in the reservoir for
fish and wildlife purposes. Significant bene-
fits will be afforded by this reservoir and,
of course, the regulation of the waters coming
down the Fryingpan River, in addition to serv-
ing the replacement purpose, can be used on
the west slope for the benefits of irrigation
projects or municipal and industrial use as the
demand develops.

I

The Basalt Project, which you will hear
more about later ! am sure, is one of the prime
targets for use of that water.

Now the collection system, which is located
in the high mountains at 10,000 feet, is one
which we are working on aggressively at the
present time to secure the design data that's
necessary for us to get out plans and specifica-
tions in order to initiate construction on that
system of tunnels, canals and conduits. I might
add that there are significant numbers of
tunnels on the collection system. This symbol
that you see here (pointing) is a tunnel; a
tunnel; a tunnel; and on across, with the dotted
lines being conduits or closed pipe sections.

I

I think it might be well for me to note at
this point one additional element mentioned by
ltr. Odell. It has to do with the hydrology;
the background information that we have rela-
tive to the water yield from this collection
system; and, as pointed out by Mr. Odell,
