I

I

The Bureau recently signed a power pooling agreement with various
Colorado power organizations to help out with this problem. They are:
the Colorado-Ute Electric Association, the Tri-State Electric Associa-
tion, the Platte River Power Authority, and the Public Service company
of Colorado. This pooling contract will enable these entities, the
Bureau of Reclamation and the Salt River Project to pool their gen-
erating capacities so that more effective use can be made of the total
generating units. Pooling will also improve the system reliability
and electric service to customers.

Along with this contract, we have also negotiated a transmission and
wheeling contract with the Colorado-Ute Electric to include the second
unit now being constructed at Hayden and two new units to be constructed
at craig. The Hayden unit of 250 megawatts and the two Craig units of
400 megawatts each will add considerable capacity to this area for
service to the customers, mainly here in Colorado. The Bureau has also
entered into a contract for the construction of a 345 kv line from
the Craig-Hayden area to Ault, Colorado, north of Denver. This line
will be jointly financed by the Tri-State, Platte River, the Bureau,
and Colorado Ute. This is another example of partnership where the
skills and talents of all are combined to provide a joint facility which
better serves the needs of the area.

We are pleased to make possible the capacity in our transmission lines
and extend our technical help any way we can to meet future demands.

One area where construction is nearing completion is the Crystal Dam.
It should be on line in 1977. This will add about 88,000 megawatts
of peaking power and we plan to examine additional peaking capacity in
the area to see if we can find and develop economically sufficient
capacity to meet peaking needs.

Turning to the Lower Yampa project, we have a map that Jake will put
up and orient us on what the map is. This is one of the projects you
will be visiting this afternoon on the tour. We also have a packet
with the details about this project which we will give you.

Mr. Rinckel: To give you an orientation, Craig is located here (point-
ing on the map). The Yampa River going in this direction. The junction
with the Green River coming at this point here. The colors illustrate
the different features. Streams are blue, bla~~ are the highways, the
green areas (pointing) here and here are what we call supplemental
service on lands in the project area that presently have some water
supply. Now, this is not all the supplemental service lands in the
area, but this map illustrates the supplemental service lands that we

-23-
