The request is to
provide matching dollars in order to take advantage of the large infusion of federal funds coming available
to Colorado potentially as early as next month. CWCB funds, if authorized by the Board and the General
Assembly, would be available for all phases of the technical and administrative needs for the proposed
floodplain studies and maps to be conducted on a statewide basis using the priority system that was
developed in the Colorado Map Modernization Implementation Plan. Matching funds will also be
required from the local entities to better allow the CWCB's funding to be leveraged against a vast amount
of federal funding,

Staff Recommendation

Staff recommends that the Board request the General Assembly to authorize $500,000 from the
Construction Fund to be appropriated to the Colorado Water Conservation Board for statewide floodplain
mapping for the Colorado Map Modernization Implementation Program,

e L:I\boardmemlNovember 2002\Agenda-21+Water Supply P&F-Map Modernization

Flood Protection.
