<br />, <br />~ <br /> <br />Source: City of Steamboat Springs <br />Public Works Project Summary <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />City of Steamboat Springs <br />Infiltration Gallery <br />CWPRA Application <br />April 15, 1991 <br /> <br />PROJECT SUMMARY <br /> <br />In response to peak summertime water demands and a need for a <br />point of redundancy in the City's water supply system, the City <br />of Steamboat Springs has contemplated a Yampa River infiltration <br />gallery since the early 1980's. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />In 1987 reports were compl&ted, copies of which are attached, <br />which presented conclusion$ regarding suitability of the proposed <br />site and presented different construction alternatives. The <br />preferred alternate was to construct 1,000 linear feet of <br />infiltration gallery, pump the raw water across the Yampa River <br />to the site of Mount Werner Water and Sanitation District's <br />wellfield and booster station, and utilize their facilities, with <br />some necessary improvement$, to treat and pump the City water. <br />The last component of the preferred alternate was construction of <br />2,300 linear feet of treat&d water main which connects the Mount <br />Werner distribution system with the City's. In this way Mount <br />Werner's distribution syst&m is used to transmit the City water. <br />Another alternative includ&d the City gallery operating <br />independently from Mount W~rner, including separate treatment and <br />pumping facilities. This alternate was more costly and thus not <br />preferred. <br /> <br />Improvements to the Mount Werner booster station include <br />providing additional pumping capacity and expanding clearwell <br />capacity in order to provide adequate disinfection. In addition, <br />because the Mount Werner distribution system operates at a <br />slightly lower pressure, 16 psi (pounds per square inch), it is <br />necessary to increase pumping heads in order to connect the two <br />distribution systems. <br /> <br />The gallery is expected to have a sustained yield of 1.4 million <br />gallons per day. <br /> <br />Property acquisition was completed in 1990 on a site adjacent to <br />and on the south side of the Yampa River from the Mount Werner <br />wellfield. <br /> <br />Design work began in September, 1990. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Construction is scheduled to take place in three phases. The <br />first phase is construction of the gallery and the raw water main <br />to Mount Werner's booster. In order to construct with groundwater <br />as low as possible, the first phase of construction began in <br />February. The first phase should be complete in May. The second <br />phase is the construction of the treated water main to connect <br />the. two systems. The construction of this phase has been bid and <br />awarded and construction Should be completed by the end of May. <br />
