Now, the other speakers have talked about Grand Valley and the on-farm
portion of the program. The Bureau has mentioned their ,part, and I .
will talk about the Soil Conservation Service and the USDA. I apologize
for my voice. If it disappears, I have some backup here..

First, we are also, studying under Public Law 93-320. : That is, 17
watersheds in the Colorado River'Basin and, the State of Colorado, that
includes the McE1mo, Gunnison, and the Grand.

For just kind of an updating--the McE1mo, we are presently ,in the'
preliminary stage there on the on-farm portion of the program, about
44,000 acres. Preliminary indications show that most of..the salt load
from McE1mo is coming from the on-farm type of practices.

We are completing the study in the Lower Gunnison and in the Gunnison, I
and we' look at, 182,000 acres of, irrigated. agriculture. preliminary
predications' are that there: are about 800,000: tons'.of salt, coming off
that area; 270,000 tons contributing through man-made sources. We
are now discussing a1ternative,treatments as far as the on-farm portion
of the program., " '" ", ,

I might"point out that we, are ,looking at the'lde1ivery',systems in our
package. ,We are' looking at alternative treatments that will run from
$89 million to $108 million to solve that problem.
