subarea core group members in almost all subareas have taken an active interest in revising .
the documents to reflect specific circumstances within their subarea, it has taken a little
longer than expected to prepate for the next round of public meetings, We feel it is worth
devoting extra time to the preparation of early drafts of these strategy documents so public
discussion on the proposals at future public meetings can be more focused and fruitful.

3, In December and January, representatives of USFWS, the Science Team, and Clarion
Associates met with core group representatives in almost all subareas to present the latest
PMJM trapping results and current thinking of the Science Team about the relative size of
different populations of PMJM along the front range. Each subarea is taking the Science
Team's infonnation into consideration as they revise the potential PMJM protection
strategies for the subarea,

4. The pMJM Steering Committee has met monthly (except in January) to review progress on
the project, to establish a schedule to guide completion of the project, and to begin a
discussion of who might serve as me applicants for Habitat Conservation Plans and
Incidental Take Pennits.

At this point, we expect the PMJM CollabOr.ltive Planning Project to move towards conclusion
through the foIlowing steps

1.

We expect that a fourth round of public meetings will be held sometime during the next
several months, but the timing of those meetings will depend on when representatives of
each subarea core group feel they would be most productive. You will be notified by mail
when this fourth round of public meetings will take place.

.

2. Following the fourth round of public meetings, Clarion Associates and the Science Team will
work as requested with subarea core groups to incorporate public reaction into the draft
strategies and to turn those strategies into draft Habitat Conservation Plans in a format that
meets me requirements of the ESA.

3. Each subarea would then refine its draft Habitat Conservation Plan so it is ready for
presentation and discussion at a fifth round of public meetings, Following those public
meetings, we expect that the draft Habitat Conservation Plans will be further refmed to
incorporate public comment, and will be presented to USFWS for review - and hopefully
approval,

4, USFWS has expressed its desire to be involved throughout this process so that they can better
understand what would be practical and effective in each subarea, and to ensure that the
requirements for preparation of legally sufficient Habitat Conservation Plans are understood
by subarea representatives and stakeholders.

If you would like more information about the Preble's Meadow Jumping Mouse or the Collaborative
Planning Project, or you would like to be added to the mailing list to receive notices of future .
meetings, please contact: Joy Polis at 303-830-2890 or jpolis@clarionassociates,com
