Dominguez Reservoir Project

Introduction

The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (Bureau) was authorized in
1972 to conduct a feasibility study of the proposed Dominguez
Reservoir Project, which project would be located on the lower
Gunnison River about 10 miles south of Grand Junction. The
Bureau has recently released the Draft Feasibility Report and
Advance Draft EIS (December, 1981) for the project.

Comments are being solicited from interested parties prior
to the finalization of the report. In particular, the Regional
Director, Cliff Barrett, has advised that the Bureau would like
to know what further steps, if any, the State of Colorado would
like to take with respect to the project.

Summary of Project Alternatives

The draft feasibility study examines several alternatives,
or so-called candidate plans. The candidate plans are as
follows:

1. Peaking power plan (plan 3 in the report)

2. Municipal and industrial water supply plan (plan 9 in
the report)

3. Environmental quality plan (plan 7 in the report)

4. Non-structural plan (plan 8 in the report)

The first two of these plans would involve the construction of
Dominguez Reservoir, while the latter two plans would involve no
reservoir at all. The peaking power and non-structural plans
