Lile, P .E. <br />Director, eWeB <br /> <br />DATE: September 15, 1998 <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Agenda Item 20.h., September 21-22,1998 Board Meeting- <br />Colorado River Basin issues - <br />Colorado River Basin Salinity Control Program <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />.,;: <br /> <br />This memo briefly updates the Board on the following three items regarding the Colorado River <br />Basin Salinity Control Program (CRBSCP) in anticipation of the next semi-armual meeting of the <br />CRBSCP Forum (Forum) to be held in Santa Fe, NM on October 19-20, 1998: <br />A. 1999 Triennial Review <br />B. Work Group Leadership <br />C. USDA Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) National Priority <br />This agenda item is primarily informational, however the Board has the option, if it chooses, to <br />provide direction concerning the 1999 Triennial Review and to reconsider and modify its May 1998 <br />resolution concerning designation of a national priority area for the USDA EQIP. Background <br />information on the CRBSCP was provided in staffs Board memos for the May 1998 meeting <br />(agenda item 26.h.) and July 1998 meeting (agenda item 26.m.). <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />A. 1999 Triennial Review. <br />As staff advised the Board at the July 1998 meeting, the Forum will be conducting its triennial <br />review of the water quality standards for Colorado River Basin salinity over the next 18 months. <br />Th~ CWCB staff will be participating in the analysis, report writing, and public participation efforts <br />during this period. At the Spring 1998 Forum meeting it was agreed that each of the Basin States <br />would undertake its own process for determining the need for additional content or issues to be <br />addressed in the 1999 Review and present those needs at the October 1998 meeting at which the <br />Forum will decide on the final scope of the 1999 Review. <br /> <br />.-;'. <br />
