.,

.

Program History: 2004 & 2005

Slow the Flow Colorado is a best practice landscape irrigation program and is modeled
after a successful program developed by the Utah State University Cooperative
Extension. The project offers landscape irrigation audits at no charge to homeowners,
renters, housing communities and businesses. These audits assess irrigation systems and
provide information and data regarding water use strategies that result in reduced water
consumption while meeting the desired goals of the homeowner. The program was
adopted in 2004 as a pilot and is running in 2005 as a program of the Center for ReSource
Conservation (CRC). The audits are conducted for a nine week period in June, July and
August. Many months of work go into preparation ofthe program and a significant
amount of time is spent in the fall analyzing and reporting on data.

Slow the Flow Colorado 2004
In 2004 the Slow the Flow Colorado program reached 479 homes in 5 Front Range
communities: Erie, Boulder, Longmont, Louisville and Lafayette. Final results showed
that over 94% of the systems audited did not meet basic industry standards for efficiency.
Furthermore, the audits demonstrated that the corrective action in most cases was easy
and inexpensive for the system owner.

.

Overall Results 2004
. Total # of audits= 479 audits (444 residential, 30 parks,S commercial)
· Total # of zones audited=720+ (multiple zones were audited and averaged for
large water audits.)
. At the end ofthe auditing season in 2004 we have a waitlist of 400 homes.

The cost of running the Slow the Flow Colorado program in 2004 was $100 per audit.
The cost of each audit was split between the municipalities involved in the program and a
grant that the CRC received from the CWCB to run the program.

The 2004 program had a full-time staff of 7 people.

Slow the Flow Colorado 2005

In the summer of 2005 the CRC continued its successful Slow the Flow Colorado
program. Considering the waiting list of over 400 homes from the 2004 program,
significant growth and participation in this year's program was anticipated.

The following municipalities signed on as project partners:

. Boulder
. Longmont
. Thornton
. Erie
. . Lafayette
2
