I

I

(slide) Here is a general picture of the metropolitan area which could
represent the demand.

(slide) Here is a drawing of the Two Forks. As you can see, we have a
dead storage of 55,000 acre-feet, and inactive storage of 120,000.
This serves a combination of fish and wildlife, recreation and power-
head, and the active conservation of 685,000. Then on the top, as we
have gone through this reformulation (this is an old slide, by the way)
it appears now that the flood control will not be part of the Two Forks
project. So that space will come out. However, the engineers tell me
that the height of the dam probably won't change too much because you
have to allow more surcharge if you don't have exclusive flood space
there.

(slide) Here is an aerial picture looking upstream in the upper South
Platte canyon in the Two Forlts damsite.

(slide) This is the artist conception of the damsite and it is off the
screen to the left, but you can see on the top of Russell Ridge is where
the visitor center would be located and there would be an aerial tram-
way down to the dam and into the powerplant house for visitors.

(slide) Here is some of the recreation use in the canyon now. Motor-
cycling, of course is very popular in the area, very popular for the
motorcyclists, very unpopular for some of the other recreationists in
the area. (slide) Of course, the fishing in the South Platte River is
widely known - very good. (slide) Another fisherman. {slide) However,
we do have competing uses for the river. Here we have tubers, swimmers,
sunbathers, maybe even a streaker in there, I am not sure. (slide)
This creates problems of parking and access, and of course, the dirt
road provides a dust problem as well. (slide) Then you have a certain
amount of pollution that goes along with this relatively uncontrolled
activity. (slide) Here is another problem of the private" lands in the
area. The gentleman who built in the floodplain and has put himself
a small dike up there, but prObably not too effective. (slide) Here is
another problem, private ownership and blocking of segments of the river
deny an access to the public. (slide) From a historical standpoint, we
have the South Platte Hotel as representative of some of the historical
sites in the canyon. (slide) This house is the former house of Governor
Ammons, who was Colorado governor in the teens, and his son later
became governor in the late 30's or early 40's. (slide) This is Cheese-
man Reservoir, which under the Two Forks plan would be incorporated
and open to the public for recreation use, and also all three reservoirs
on the Upper South would be regulated to provide minimum flows down the
river for better fishing and recreation. (slide) This is above

-7-
