They are particularly interested in the research which would focus on the Denver
Basin bedrock aquifers in the eastern portion ot the baSin. Up till now most of the information
concerning the aquifers has been obtained on the western side of the basin where the sediments are .
more coarse-grained. Obtaining information further east would allow for detennination of the
amount of water in storage in those aquifers wilh much more certainty. This would be information
which could help considerably in the administration of the aquifers.

It is the understanding of the Commission that the core hole is to be initially constructed as
a monitoring hole and that there are ongoing discussions both with the Town of Kiowa and Elbert
County as to the possibility of using the core hole as a pilot hole fora water well. . It is alsO the
Commissions understanding that if the hole is to ultimately be used as a 'water well, a permit will
. be obtained and the construcrion will be in accordance with all applicable rules and regulations of
the Colorado Ground Water Commission and state statutes. Should this not happen, the hole will
be properly abandoned.

Therefore, the Commission wishes to el\press its support of the proposal.

Sincerely,

,eb~ J?~
Hal D.
