The 500-year storm criteria for critical facilities <br />- . have been recognized as being prudent for floodplain management due to life safety issues and high <br />risk of adverse impacts associated with the loss of such facilities. <br /> <br />Implementation: Many communities throughout Colorado have adopted the minimum state and <br />federal standards for floodplain management, while others have taken the steps to adopt more stringent <br />standards at their own discretion. This Instruction is consistent with current practice and provides <br />additional tools for communities to work with if they so desire. Critical facilities within a community <br />consist of hospitals, water and sewer treatment plants, fire stations, nursing homes, schools, and others <br />similar structures. <br /> <br />Staff Recommendation <br />Staff recommends that the Board approve Instruction numbers 7 through 9 related to the development <br />of the Colorado Floodplain and Stormwater Criteria Manual. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Flood Protection.
