Section 25: Authorization <br />and appropriation for the Colorado Foundation for <br />Water Education (CFWE). After many years of hard <br />work statewidc by individuals and organizations who <br />carc about watcr issucs, the Foundation finally becomcs <br />a reality, <br />. Inaugural Colorado Foundation for Watcr <br />Education (then Colorado Alliance for Watcr <br />Education) Workshop held August 29, 2002 in <br />Pueblo, Colorado. More than 40 peoplc turned out in <br />Pueblo to launch thc Foundation and identifY its <br />parmers. Board members were nominated and elected <br />to the 22 seats available, <br />· September 2002: Articles of Incorporation Filed, <br />and the Executive Director Selected. From a pool <br />of qualified applicants, Karla A. Brown was selected as <br />the first Executive Director of the Foundation, <br />Formerly a water quality specialist for Colorado State <br />University Cooperative Extension, Ms, Brown moved <br />from Montrose to the Denver area to begin her <br />employment in Novcmber, <br />. December 2002: Contracts approved by the State. <br />Contracts were established to allow for a grant award <br />from the Colorado \X" a ter Consen.ation Board to the <br />Colorado W'ater Congress. An agreement between the <br />Colorado Water Congress and the Colorado <br />Foundation for Watcr Education structures the initial <br />transfer of funds, <br />· February 2003: New Offices. CFWE moves into new <br />office space in mid-February on the fourth floor of <br />1580 Logan, This new space provides the Foundation <br />with room to grow including a conference room, <br />reception area and two offices, <br />. March 2003: Board Retreat. Board members <br />convened to develop long-term strategic goals for the <br />organization, Goals were set in the areas of educational <br />programs, fundraising, outreach, and organizational <br />dcvelopment, <br />. March 2003: Citizen~Y Guide to Colorado Water <br />LawPublished. Authored by Colorado Supreme <br />Court Justice Gregory Hobbs, this 36-page full color <br />bookIct inaugurates the first in the Citizen's Gtfide series, <br /> <br />Colorado Foundation for Water Education 2002 Annual Report <br /> <br /> <br />From top to bottom: Dick MacRavey, <br />some members of the new CFWE <br />Board, Tom Cech.
