feasibility of constructing reservoirs at
the suggested sites. Resolutions supporting
the plan of improvement were presented by
various irrigation districts, cities, and
civic organizations representing affected
persons along the South Platte River.

About 130 persons attended the hearing
in Deer Trail. I didn't know that Deer Trail
was the site of the world's first rodeo but
they assured me it was. Thirteen persons
made statements concerning the plan of im-
provement. Representatives of local soil
conservation districts indicated that they
favor upstream storage and land treatment
measures. Speakers from the Byers area were
in favor of the potential dam on West Bijou
Creek. A petition, containing the names of
125 persons from the Byers and Deer Trail
areas who support the potential plan of im-
provement, was presented at the hearing.

In general, the potential plan of im-
provement was supported at both hearings.
Opposition appeared to be centered against
specific reservoir sites in favor of alterna-
tive sites and upstream storage. Suggestions
made by local interests will be investigated.
If they are found to be feasible, the plan of
improvement will be altered to include them.

The Bijou Creek basin studies have been
separated from our over-all South Platte
River investigation and our interim report is
being prepared. Our current schedule calls
for completion of the report in early 1970.
Before the report reaches Congress, however,
it will be reviewed by our higher authorities,
the State of Colorado, the various federal
agencies, and by the Bureau of the Budget.

If you have any questions concerning the
Bijou Creek studies or any of our other activi-
ties in the South Platte River basin, I would
be most happy to try to answer them at this
time."
