e

September 29. 1999

lYIike Meininger
Mesa County Engineer

Grand Junction, CO 815 I

Dear Mr. Meininger:

This letter is in regards to the need for a solution to flooding problems along Bosley Wash in the
un-incorporated Clifton area.

Bosley wash is located between 34 and 35 Roads, it is a drainage wash for Mount Garfield. On three
separate occasions this summer, July 24, 1999, August 11, 1999 and September 13, there was
extensive flooding from rain storms. The July 24th storm was approximately .69 inches, and the
August 24th storm was approximately. 75 inches. Due to multiple problems, the wash overflowed in
multiple areas and properties were damaged by both water and silt. In some cases 12" to I 8" inches
of silt was left on driveways, lawns, fields etc. resulting in many thousands of dollars in damage.

e

We would like to see a study of the problem and a solution decided upon as soon as possible. befure
next spring when the rains will come again. We don't want to be flooded again.

All of the neighbors of the Wash and other nearby neighbors have been meeting to find a way to
make sure this flooding doesn't happen again. On September 28, 1999 we met with John Ballagh of
Grand Junction Drainage District, Larry Lang ofCWCB, Stuart Gardner 'With CDOT, Ed Hill with
CDOT, Kathryn Robertson with BLlYL Mike DiLuzio with NRCS. Jim Currier with 1'IRCS, Matt
Smith State Representative and yourself to discuss what could possibly be done to assure that this
doesn't happen again.

We would appreciate any assistance you could offer.

Attached is a description of the floods as well as a list of property owners with their signatures who
were affected by the flood and their brief comments. There are also signatures of concerned
property owners in the immediate area of Bosley Wash.

Sinc~rely, .-'
/--" . ., -/~~ ......' _c.':
,~-:::>--,,::,~ ~- /C-;.- /, "-'_-
r " . . .Z:a..-j~ .
L.,,/~'--<--/ --- /-.-- ~
- .(.:-../ c__.'-.,
Spokesperson for concerned citizens

e

cc:Matt Smith
encl.
