I am very pleased that there
is a cooperative effort to focus on Bosley Wash and other problem drainage areas of Mesa
County. The meeting revealed that there will likely be growing problems with drainage in
numerous areas in the County as the major ditches are being covered. Federal funds,
although available for drainage work, are more easily accessed once studies are completed.
The input from~!! agencies indicates that Bosley Wash is only one of many natural drainage
areas to potentially impact landowners in Mesa County. The federal agencies recognize that
there is a basin wide drainage problem, and that these agencies may be able to access federal
basin wide funding more readily than to focus on retrospectively assisting with fundings for
one flooding wash at a time.

e

I am particularly pleased that Mesa County and the State of Colorado have focused
their attention on the need for conducting studies to leverage the federal programs.
Comprehensive basin wide drainage planning will provide insight into increasing land use
pressures and may save local governments potentially greater costs as drainage regulations
increase under the federal Clean Water Act.
