Task 6 - Demography. Economv and Social Setting

Describe the existing demography of the state and provide an overview of the Colorado
economy. Develop a projection of statewide demographic and economic trends over the
next 30 years. In addition, the overall social setting will be described in terms ofthe
values, concerns, and desires of the agricultural, rural, and urban populations ofthe state
as well as other groups which may have special concerns with regard to water use and
development.

Task 7 - Basin Descriptions

Describe the physical, institutional, social, demographic and economic setting as well as
the extent of water supply development (the existing infrastructure) in each of Colorado's
major river basins. Linkages between basins, such as trans-basin diversions, will be
included.

The information developed here will be similar to the work done in Tasks 4, 5 and 6 but
will provide more detailed information on the characteristics of each individual basin and
will be prepared in such a way as to be easily utilized in the formulation and evaluation
of water supply alternatives and strategies in Tasks 10, I I and 12. The task will include a
discussion of issues, concerns, problems and opportunities in each basin.

Summaries of CWCB basin meetings and Basin Fact Sheets recently developed for the
CWCB will be incorporated in this task as well as information which may be available
from the Colorado Drought and Water Supply Assessment which is expected to be
completed in 2003.
