I

miles. A qated outlet works with a low-
level inlet would be provided to regulate
reservoir discharges. The outlet works
would consist of a concrete intake struc-
ture, a concrete conduit, and a stilling
basin at the downstream end of the conduit.
A rock-cut spillway would be provided in
the left abutment of the dam. At full
pool the reservoir surface area would be
1,740 acres. utilization of the sediment
pool for recreation would provide a lake
having 230 acres of surface area. Total
cost of the Castlewood Dam and Reservoir
is estimated to be $24,967,000.

Over the years, the channel downstream
from the Cherry Creek dam has been deterio-
rating. Areas adjoining the channel have
become more intensively developed and
greate~ runoff can be expected. Unless
the channel capacity is retained, opera-
tion of the Cherry Creek project could be
curtailed. It is proposed, therefore,
that the Cherry Creek channel be improved
in the reach from the dam downstream to
the South Platte River. The improvement
would consist of clearing, enlarging and
stabilizing of about 12 miles of the ex-
isting channel, thereby increasing its
flow capacity to permit unrestricted
operation of the dam. The channel would
be further enlarged to provide standard-
project-flood protection and make the
area essentially free from flood flows
entering downstream from the Cherry Creek
Dam. Total cost of the Cherry Creek
channel improvement project is estimated
to be $21,500,000.

I

Within the Sand Creek basin the pro-
posed work would consist of two dams and
channel improvements along the creeks from
the dams to the South Platte.

Sand Creek Dam and Reservoir would be
