The District operates the Vallecito Reservoir to supply irrigation water to 300
landowners within the 45,000-acre service area. The Vallecito Water Company (VWC) is an
enterprise of PRID, and was formed to plan, construct, and operate a rural domestic water
system in southeast La Plata County. VWC will obtain its raw water supply (2,000 acre-feet per
year) from PRID, and will deliver water to 920 taps within the initial service area. Steve Harris,
P.E., has completed the feasibility study. Funding for the project will be provided by USDA
Rural Development ($6 million loan, $2 million grant), Colorado Water Resources and Power
Development Authority ($1.4 million loan), La Plata Electric Association ($300,000 loan), and
the Colorado Water Conservation Board ($200,000 loan for the raw water portion of the
project.) PR/D needs $300,000 in additional funding for up-front planning and design, in order to
proceed with the project. The District paid the cost of the feasibility study.

(See Map on Reverse)

7
