<br />SUMMARY
<br />On behalf of 3 counties and 8 municipalities, the City of Colorado Springs is requesting financial
<br />assistance from the CWCB's non-reimbursable investments fund to cost share with the U.S. Army Corps
<br />of Engineers, Albuquerque District for a General Investigation (GI) for the Fountain Creek watershed.
<br />The Corps will be the study contractor. It is anticipated that the Corps and eleven communities will be
<br />the study sponsors with assistance from the state of Colorado. The Corps will contract with one or more
<br />engineering consulting firms for the performance of the contract.

<br />The purpose of the study consists of an in-depth comprehensive analysis of the Fountain Creek watershed.
<br />The study is critical for solutions to be found that address the flooding and erosion damage that have
<br />resulted in millions of dollars in damage to communities, farmers, ranchers and private landowners within
<br />the watershed. The GI will provide engineering analyses, cost estimates and recommendations that will be
<br />used to seek congressional authorization for construction of recommended projects to reduce erosion,
<br />sedimentation and flooding. The study is programmed for a three year schedule with the CWCB
<br />providing financial assistance for year one.
