The
Flood Protection Section has prepared or sponsored the preparation of numerous other technical
documents relating to floodplain management in various ways. In addition, local governments, federal
agencies and private entities have prepared other flood-related technical documents. The CWCB does
not have statutory authority and therefore has never formally approved any such documents in the past.

Staff is now suggesting that the Board consider "formal approval" of flood-related technical documents
in the future. Staff at this time is onlv requesting the Board to consider and discuss the concept of a
future approval process for technical information other than 100-vear floodplain studies.

Backl!round
Section 37-60-106(c), C.R.S. authorizes the CWCB and assigns it the duty "to designate and approve
storm or floodwater runoff channels or basins, and to make such designations available to legislative
bodies of cities and incorporated towns, to county planning commissions, and to boards of adjustment
of cities, incorporated towns, and counties of this state." In canying out that responsibility, the Board
has designated and approved over 550 floodplain information reports and maps since December 1967.
