NOTES ON THE YAMPA~WHITE PROJECT RECONNAISSANCE REPORT

This report covers the basins of these rivers in
the same way that the Gunnison and Cliffs-Divide Reports
showed the possibilities of water resources developments
in the Gunnsion drainage and on the main stem of the Colo-
rado River. Two of the possible participating projects are
incapable, under this study, of paying back any of the cost
of construction. These are the Wessels Unit and the Hayden
Mesa Unit. The first would bring 6.750 new acres under
water, and the second 22,940 acres.

t

A third project is the Great Northern Unit. This,
according to the study, is capable of paying back two percent
of the cost of construction over a period of fifty years.
The estimated cost is $4,396,500. It would bring 10,660 new
acres under cultivation and would provide supplemental water
for 2,590 acres.

The largest project in this drainage area, the
Yampa, is the Juniper Unit. Treated as an irrigation pro-
ject, it will bring 101,280 new acres under cultivation. It
will cost $58,913,000 and has the ability to pay back twenty-
one percent of the total construction cost. This project
also possesses power possibilities, and as yet these have
not been studied, so the present report is merely indicative
of one phase of possible development.

Attention is called to the division of this project
between Utah and Colorado. 68,360 acres are in Utah and
32,920 in Colorado.

The Two Bar Unit will bring into cultivation 4,260
new acres of land at the cost of $1,125,000. The farmers
would be able to pay back twenty~two percent of construction
cost. However, this project m~st be studied further because
much of the Two Bar Unit land is in the Lily Park Reservoir
site and the unit is also related to the potential Cross
Mountain power development, and the Savery-Pot Hook irriga-
tion project located partially in Wyoming and partially in
Colorado. .

In the White watershed there is a proposed unit,
the Yellow Jacket, which would bring 36,900 acres of new
land into production and would provide a supplemental water
supply for 4,240 acres. The cost of this project is esti-
mated at $17,210,000. The water users would be able to pay
eight percent of the construction cost. The Yellow Jacket
project contemplates a reservoir which would increase the
capacity of Trapper's Lake.

I
