real progress along this line.

As mentioned by the director of your board, we do have a construction
program which has worked very well in the state of Utah. It has done a
great deal, especially for the outlying areas of our state in the areas
of short water supply. This program has established and maintained to a I
great degree the way of life that we like to have in our small communi.:
ties..' ,

I would like also to introduce Dan Lawrence who is director of our board.
Dan is a fireball, works well with the board, meets well with the people,
very active on interstate matters pertaining to the waters that affect
Utah. We are glad to have Dan.

We have our state engineer, Dee Hansen with us. Dee, would you stand
please. Also we have the assistant attorney general, Dallin Jensen with
us. We have several other friends in attendance with the Utah group
today, including representatives of the Indian tribes and conservancy
districts. I won't try to introduce these men individually, but they
are here and we appreciate their effort in attending today.

I would like to ask our director, Dan, inasmuch as we have quite a
representation of our staff, to introduce the staff and some other people
that he would like to introduce that probably I have overlooked. Dan,
would you introduce the balance.

Mr. Lawrence: I certainly echo our appreciation for this meeting and
the opportunity to get together at this time. It is fantastic, the size
of the audience. I hope they don't go home disappointed over what they
came to hear today.

We have part of our staff with us today. I would like to have Barry
Saunders stand up. Barry is our chief of planning and spends a great
deal of his time working with me on interstate streams, especially the
Colorado. Harry is a work group member on the Colorado control forum,
which I am sure you have heard about. Robert Murdock is here, our chief
design engineer for our construction program. We also have our chief
geologist, Bruce Montgomery. Bert Page is our administrative assistant.
Then our very capable secretary to the board, Connie Borrowman. We are
all delighted to be here with you.

Mr. Stapleton: Thank you, Dan. 1 didn't introduce him at first, but
Harris Sherman is director of natural resources for the state of Colo-
rado. Harris Sherman.

Mr. Sherman: Thank you.

Mr. Stapleton: The first item on our joint agenda is the Rio Blanco Oil
Shale Project in Colorado. I would like our Director, Larry Sparks, to
initiate this part of the agenda for us.

Mr. saarks: Ladies and gentlemen. For a number of years there has been
consi erab1e activity about oil shale development in this part of the

I

-44-
